Letter : Buffalo, to Guy H. Salisbury, 1863 Apr. 7.

Transmits to the Buffalo Historical Society a souvenir medal he received during the celebration of the completion of the Erie Canal in 1825; also tells of the "gun telegraph" used to signal the canal opening, from Buffalo to New York, and back to Buffalo, on 26 Oct. 1826.

Born in New Hartford, Oneida County, N.Y., 10 Feb. 1803. Came to Buffalo in 1829 to study medicine in the office of Dr. Cyrenius Chapin. He gave up medicine for business, and was a longtime partner of Hiram Pratt. He also served as president of the Bank of Buffalo, and was elected mayor of Buffalo in 1848.
